The Persepolis Bull Capital, often called the Bull Capital, is one of the most impressive architectural elements of the Apadana Palace. These monumental capitals supported the wooden beams of the roofs of the great audience halls. Carved in the form of back-to-back bulls, they symbolize strength, stability, and protective power. Achaemenid artisans demonstrated exceptional mastery in stone carving, combining animal realism with stylized elegance. The bull, a sacred figure in Persian iconography, also represented fertility and cosmic order. Each capital measured several meters in height, contributing to the grandeur of the Apadana columns. Their role was not only functional but also decorative and symbolic. Today, several fragments of these capitals are preserved in the Persepolis Museum and other institutions around the world. They remain a fascinating testament to the ingenuity and artistic power of the Achaemenid Empire.
