The Homa of Persepolis is a mythical creature carved into the column capitals, often depicted as a majestic bird with powerful wings and an imposing form. Known in Persian as the “Bird of Fortune” (Homā-ye Sa‘ādat), the Homa symbolizes divine protection, prosperity, power, and eternity. At Persepolis, these sculptures served both structural and symbolic purposes, supporting massive wooden beams while protecting the royal palace. The intricate details of the feathers and wings reflect the exceptional craftsmanship of Achaemenid artisans. Inspired by Persian and Mesopotamian mythology, the Homa represents the cultural richness of the empire. Today, its remains continue to embody the spiritual and architectural grandeur of Persepolis.
